The Miracle on 1st Street Toy Giveaway is an over three decade tradition that was founded by Daniel L. Hernandez as a means to celebrate Christmas with the kids from the area (that felt Santa was not headed to their house). Initially composed of a few toys, police cars disguised as reindeer and Hollenbeck Staff dressed as elves; the Miracle on 1st Street has grown into one of the largest toy giveaways in the City of Los Angeles. Thanks to the support of thousands of volunteers, police, community, core leadership and sponsors the Miracle is just that-- “a MIRACLE”, especially for the thousands of kids whose only gift comes from this giveaway.
The Miracle on First Street services nearly 10,000 youth and their families with gifts, food and entertainment. For most of our youth, this will be the only source of holiday celebration they will have. We are proud to be the ones that give them smiles, the opportunity to meet Santa and a consistent source of Holiday cheer.
The event entails a parade, gift exchange and an afternoon of activity and giveaways on Santa Clause Lane. Snow, a small holiday train, petting zoo and interactive displays fills several city block of the Santa Clause Lane. Prior to gift distribution, a fleet of vehicles parade the line of those eagerly awaiting the day’s activities. Having been in existence for over three decades, the Miracle has provided for generations, some once recipients are now parents of recipients.
This wonderful occasion is a true Miracle on First Street. However in order to continue our efforts, we need your help and rely on the generous contributions such as yours. Please consider being a part of a holiday tradition through your support.
